Music video (10th edit)

We've chosen to use this font as my partner and I agreed it was fun and whilst it was curvaceous and round and animated, it still maintains a professionalism which is necessary for it not to look too DIY.

We chose to change the textual colours to white because in our CD booklet we want to incorporate our doodle concept however we also want to achieve simplicity and minimalism which can be done with white doodles.

The next step from her will be to achieve feedback from my teachers.

My partner was just playing around with doodles and layouts here. This prompted our decision to use white illustrations.

Digital Package Planning

The location of our photoshoot was by some simple streets in London. Chance The Rapper's musical style is quite laid back and simple so we didn't want to do an ellaborate photoshoot at a savvy location with fancy clothing, we wanted to keep it real. Because the title we're using for the album is "All Night" we were inspired by pictures we found on pinterest of night time. However as our idea progressed we thought that in order to be dynamic and alternative and incorporate the binary opposite theory we'd take the same planned pictures but in a clear sunny day.

We wanted consistency from the music video to the digital package so we dressed the actress in the same, unforgettably bright anmd contempay red puffer jacket. We also wanted the digital package to be refined and minimal but keep with the overlay concept so we used white illustrations and we've changed the opening music video text to white.

In the focus group task our audience agreed that colur schemes lead to the best digital packages so we designed many (below) but agreed on blue, white, red, purple.

I made some possible layouts of how the package could go. The one below was concepted around the border and this was a theme I supported in my media foundation portfolio. I think it's cool however if we had a border concept I think we'd also have to use this concept in our music video which we haven't.

Then I made this one which has some pages we love and some we think are alright. 

A page we really liike is the second page which I made a prototype of below but in words it is a longshot with the most part of the photo being the sky with text or drawings overlaying it.

I also really like photos which carry onto two pages like these packages so I'm eager to try somet hing like this.

My partner has an idea for the track listing of a portrait photo with the song titles surrounding her head so we're also gonna try that.

"Lemonade" by Beyoncé digital package analysis

"The Perfect" by Red Velvet digital package analysis

The digipack which I will be analysing is the second studio album called "The Perfect" by the south Korean girl group Red Velvet. The concept of the album is immediately clarified by editing techniques including the colour scheme, font, and the silhouetting images. The concept of the album is love but in my opinion it seems to be targeted towards strong, independent girls. The silhouetting and (on trend) costuming portray the members of the band as cool, fit and the presence of no men indicates independence. The colour scheme of red and black has connotations of both sex and danger, and so I think the depiction that Red Velvet are striving for id that they are hot but also not weak. The font throughout is fat and animated and similar to comic book fonts and I think the reason why they have given the package this essence is because they want to signify the main protagonists of a comic book, the heroin or the villain, which are  both traditionally independent, sexy, and strong characters.

The amount of english words is quite minimal and all the phrases they've kept in english are short and snappy and quirky (for example "peek-a-boo", "bad boy"), which peaks interest for both English-speaking and Korean spectators.

The layout is quite simple and conventional with the text neatly below or to the side of the image, and I think the simplicity is fundamental because the colours and font is so bold and in your face.

Typeface samples

Here I've applied the type faces from the previous post onto the opening sequences in the video. My favourites are the fourth and the fifth. The fourth is very neat and minimal however not too formal and still sort of fun. The fifth one is really pretty in my opinion however I don't know if it's too eccentric for our video.
